As we delve deeper into October, there's no denying the chill in the air, and it's time to adapt our lash game to the changing weather. In this week's newsletter, we'll discuss how the cold affects the dry time of lash glues and provide some invaluable tips for working with adhesive in these conditions. Plus, don't miss the exciting Lash Pro Talk event featuring Cara Slater and additional advice for lash artists navigating this chilly October.

Lash Glues: What You Need to Know Now

As many of you may have noticed, the dropping temperatures have a significant impact on lash adhesive dry times. Cold weather and low humidity tends to slow down the curing process of glues, which can be challenging for lash artists aiming for quick and efficient applications. Here's what you need to keep in mind:

• Extended Drying Times: In colder environments, lash glue usually take longer to set, potentially affecting your productivity. 
  • Here are some tips:
    • Use less glue than you did during summer months
    • Change to faster drying glue
    • For volume lashing, consider swiping off the glue so the fan does not collapse when applying to the natural lash, then dip again and place on natural lash
    • Crystalising technique prior to placement
    • Hold the extension(s) for a few seconds longer if you the extensions not grabbing

• Humidity Matters: The cold air is often drier, which can further extend drying times. You might want to consider using a humidifier to maintain the optimal humidity level in your workspace. If you can’t afford humidifier, consider having a kettle with water and let it boil and steam the room, but ensure the kettle is away from the salon bed and client to avoid accidents.

• Use a Quality Glue: Investing in a high-quality adhesive designed for various temperature conditions is crucial. Quality glues can offer better performance and consistency even in colder temperatures.

Other Handy Tips: 

Here are some practical tips to help you navigate the challenges of working with lash glue in cold weather:

• Shake the Glue: Shake the glue and ensure its in correct room temperature before application can help maintain a consistent viscosity and drying time. 

• Use a Hygrometer: A hygrometer can help you monitor the humidity level in your workspace, allowing you to make necessary adjustments for optimal adhesive performance.

• Set Realistic Expectations: Understand that you might need to adjust your working pace and place. Allow for slightly longer drying times between lash placements to ensure secure bonding. Also, you may need to give yourself an extra 10-15 mins for each client treatment.

This Thursday 26th October, the Lash PRO Talk will not be going ahead because I am away in Miami for few days before going for a women's retreat. I will write more about this in the next an upcoming newsletter SOON.
